Fashion Trade Advisor Position (French Trade Commission of New York)

FASHION TRADE ADVISOR

START DATE: June 1, 2009: Full-time position
LOCATION: New York, NY
PLEASE NOTE: MUST BE U.S. PERMANENT RESIDENT OR U.S. CITIZEN

Organization:

The Trade Advisor is based in New York City and reports to the Fashion Director of the Consumer Goods Department. The Fashion Director reports to the Department Managing Director also based in New York City.

The Trade Advisor assists the Director in covering the following markets for the local/Northeast region (in particular, but not limited to, the Tri-State area):
Textile
Ready to wear (Men – Women – Children)
Intimate Apparel and Swimwear
Fashion Accessories (Footwear / Eyewear / Jewelry…)

The Consumer Goods Department assists French companies with their business development in the United States. We organize promotional events for French products and invite groups of French companies to show their products in the U.S. We publish market studies researching trends and competition in the above-mentioned industries, and introduce French companies to potential U.S. business partners including importers/distributors, agents, representatives, and retailers buyers. We also consult to French companies regarding the best channels of distribution for their products, and provide market knowledge and information related to communications/press, logistics, import regulations, etc.

Responsibilities:

The Trade Advisor will provide support in covering the above-mentioned industries for the local/Northeast region. Under direct supervision and upon training by the Fashion Director, the Trade Advisor will contribute to the following activities:
• Organize, prepare, and attend business meetings with French and U.S. partners (importers/distributors, agents, and retail buyers). Brief French companies before and after business meetings.
• Research, information-gathering and content development for publications/articles
• Annual event-planning
• Networking with importers/distributors, agents, and retail buyers through trade show visits, telephone calls, and store visits

Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree or higher
• Mastery of written and spoken French
• Two to three years work experience in sales, customer relations, marketing, or consulting is ideal but not required. Strong networking skills required
• Knowledge of consumer goods industry is ideal but not required
• Pro-active individual who possesses the ability to take initiative and work independently
• Team-player, able to integrate, contribute to, lead, and coordinate projects with other members of the Consumer Goods team
• Capacity to multi-task, and high attention-to-detail
• Willingness and ability to travel within the U.S. as well as in France
• Working knowledge of basic computer applications, specifically search engines

Salary : $49,800. Salary is not negotiable
