Anti-Smoking Ad Sex Act

According to AP, an ad sponsored by the Association for Nonsmokers' Rights, features a teenage boy who could be construed to be performing oral sex on a man in a suit, except the teen has a cigarette in his mouth. A caption reads, "Smoking means being a slave to tobacco." There are two other ads in the same vein, one featuring an adolescent girl.

The leader of the organization behind the campaign acknowledged the ads were meant to shock and said such provocative campaigns were the only way to reach young people. Parola, the group's director insisted the ads — developed pro bono by the BDDP & Fils advertising agency — were not really about sex at all.

As an advertising professional, who has seen anti-smoking campaigns from around the world, and worked on nicotine-replacement therapies closely, I must say that this is possibly the most persuasive campaign ever written.

It is a well-known fact that all forms of messaging related to health hazards, etc., only push the user/addict closer to his death wish, more so amongst rebellious adolescents.

This one here sums up the disgust that they might feel towards the establishment, giving them the option of making a choice that is keeping with their sense of honour.

Bravo!

Yes, I know many people who tried to quit smoking but every time they failed. Something has to be done. My kids at school said that a cancer survivor visited their school one day with a jar. He began his talk with "inside the jar, the black tissue was my lung with cancer cells..." pretty graphical and effective.
