Carla Bruni , Michelle Obama and the Queen of England
I know we shouldn't care what the French first couple does in their sex life. After all, they are married to each other. The story now is nothing particularly scandalous. Just that French President Nicholas Sarkozy and his supermodel wife Carla Bruni may have kept The Queen waiting because they weren’t quite ready to leave the bedroom.
In his upcoming book on the Obama presidency, Jonathan Alter reports that the slight was revealed when Bruni tried talking to Michelle Obama about their sex lives. When she asked if they had ever kept a head of state waiting, "Michelle laughed nervously and said no,” reports Alter. This is perhaps the most important cultural difference between the French and the anglophones. The French talk about sex in a totally free manner, while it is frowned upon to do in the US.
ABC's Christophe Schpoliansky reports from Paris:
A new book claims the French presidential couple kept an unidentified head of state waiting while they had sex. Ooh la la!
In the new book, “The Promise: President Obama, Year One”, Newsweek editor Jonathan Alter reveals that, during a visit to the US, France’s first lady, former supermodel-turned-singer Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, bragged to her American counterpart Michelle Obama how she and French president Nicolas Sarkozy had made a head of state wait while they were having sex.
'Bruni wanted to know if, like the Sarkozys, Michelle and the President had ever kept anyone waiting that way,' wrote the American journalist. ‘Michelle laughed nervously and said no,’ he added.
The spicy revelation on the sex life of the French presidential couple has led people to think that the dignitary in question may even have been the Queen of England, although she was never identified by Bruni-Sarkozy in the discussion. During an official state visit to the U.K, President Sarkozy and his wife spent a night at Windsor Castle, home of the Queen, shortly after they married two years ago.
The Sarkozys are notorious for being late. In 2008, they kept Prince Charles waiting on the 90th anniversary of the 1918 Armistice. And the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month became… 11:10am, after their helicopter brought the Sarkozys late to the ceremony.
You may comment on this article. Many people find the following questions interesting:
- Why did Mrs. Obama (or whoever) reveal the French first lady’s sex talk to an author?
- What do you think of Jonathan Alter for making it available to an even wider audience? Was it really relevant to include in a book about the Obamas?
- If the tax-payers pay the president, can he be late to historically significant events for this kind of reason?
- If the Queen of England were to read that report, what would she think?
- Do you believe Michelle Obama truthful when she said that she had not done the same thing?
- If the report is accurate, why would Bruni-Sarkozy be comfortable sharing this particular aspect of her life with people she has just met?
- The French are more liberal on this kind of topic. However, is it acceptable for the wife of a head of state to indulge in what appears to be sexual boasting?
- Would this make you less (or more) likely to vote for President Sarkozy if he runs for election again?
- Finally, have you ever gotten odd inquisitive looks when you were running a little behind schedule? Do you think you can tell from the look on someone's face if they have just been "indulging"?
